Blacksmithing Open Forge -Making Christmas Ornaments
Not a class, but a chance to practice your skills. Bring your own material or purchase material available to work on your project. A lab monitor will be on hand for supervision and guidance, although these are not teaching workshops.
In this special holiday class the instructor will show any interested participants how to make a "Friedrich's Cross" crucifix or a "Snowflake Paperweight", either of which is suitable as a Christmas ornament. Anyone who signs up is given the chance to learn the "Friedrich's" techniques, or they can work on their own project,
Bring your own steel OR we have steel for sale at the forge:
- 1/4鈥� square
- 3/8鈥� square and round
- 1/2鈥� square and round
- sucker rod (higher carbon steel) sold in 7鈥� sections
Students must wear fire-safe clothing (cotton, wool, or leather; no synthetics), closed-toe shoes (no synthetic uppers), and should dress for an open classroom. Long pants and short sleeves recommended. Bring a jacket in case the night is cold. Water will be provided.

Leif Bennett |
Leif Bennett has been blacksmithing and metalworking since 1993. He has taken a wide variety of blacksmithing courses and has been teaching blacksmithing for more than a decade at Adam鈥檚 Forge in Los Angeles. He has a B.S. in applied physics from the California Institute of Technology and currently holds Level 1 and Instructor certificates issued by the California Blacksmith Association. |
