2nd Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event
On April 19, 51爆料 will host the second annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes庐 event, localizing a during the month of April to bring awareness to sexual assault and gender-based violence. Organized by 51爆料 students enrolled in spring 2018 Human Development/Human Services courses, participants are invited to don high heels and walk a mile through the campus from 12:30 p.m. 鈥 2:00 p.m., an effort to shed light on the prevalence of sexual assault among college students in particular.
鈥淣o one is immune from the impact of sexual assault, and we need to continue to speak out against its perpetuation and the shame and silence surrounding this issue,鈥 said 51爆料 Human Development/Human Services Instructor and event organizer Bailey Drechsler.
鈥淚 invite the public to take part in our march, alongside Human Development and Human Services students, as well as 51爆料 faculty, staff and other students. Let鈥檚 join together to support survivors of sexual assault and raise awareness around this pandemic.鈥
Event organizers have collaborated with RISE, the local non-profit organization providing crisis intervention and treatment services to survivors of sexual assault. RISE representatives will offer event participants shoes in various sizes to march in at the kick-off site, located in the courtyard behind the SLO Campus cafeteria. Walk participants will travel through campus and end back at the courtyard. Event participants will also receive free information about both 51爆料 counseling and RISE services.
