Faculty Lecture on Sexual Identity
In an effort to share 51爆料 faculty expertise with fellow faculty, staff and the community, the college will hold a Faculty Lecture Series event on April 10 titled 鈥淪exual Identities: From Center to Margins鈥 from 3:00 p.m. 鈥 4:00 p.m. on the San Luis Obispo Campus in room 4028.
51爆料 Human Development Instructor Bailey Drechsler will lead the lecture and discuss 鈥渢he distinct components of sexual identity, along with the limitations of the Western narrative which frame it.鈥
鈥淚n acknowledging androgyny, asexuality, and transgenderism, we see that the prevailing Western view of sexual identity is not only overly simplified, but also discriminatory,鈥 said Drechsler, who also serves on the college鈥檚 Equity Action Committee. 鈥淢oving beyond a binary perspective of gender, this presentation addresses gender fluidity expressed in Japan, Samoa, and in indigenous and contemporary Americas.鈥
The lecture is free to the public, however space is limited. Members of the public interested in attending the lecture are encouraged to call ahead at (805) 546-3100, ext. 2659, or email lbaxley@cuesta.edu.
The college launched the Faculty Lecture Series in February of 2016 with the goal of hosting three lectures each semester. According to 51爆料 Academic Senate president and chemistry instructor Dr. Lara Baxley, 鈥渢he intent of the Faculty Lecture Series is to share the vast and interesting knowledge of various faculty members, while providing a sense of community, and allowing the opportunity for faculty, staff, students and the public to come and learn about 51爆料鈥檚 many disciplines.鈥
